School Counseling

The School Counseling Department promotes awareness and understanding of self and others. We assist students in the development of the academic, social-emotional, and career skills necessary to become effective communicators, informed thinkers, problem solvers, self-directed learners, and responsible citizens. School counselors are proactive in addressing students’ needs using innovative strategies and interventions in a safe, caring environment.

Our school counselors meet with every student throughout the year, but they are also available for less academic concerns. If you need to talk, please stop by. We’re here to help.

Students who would like to change their schedule should complete a Schedule Change form, available in the school counseling office.

Earning College Credit

Nathan Hale-Ray High School offers several opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school, including the following:

Advanced Placement (AP)
Most colleges recognize AP courses during the admissions process and accept successful exam scores for credit, placement, or both. Students should consult individual colleges for specific policies.

Dual-Credit/Dual Enrollment Partnerships
The  Wesleyan University High School Scholars Program  both offer college courses to NHRHS juniors and seniors in good standing. Students may apply for one college course per semester free of charge, though transportation is required. Students are also responsible for any book costs.

University of Connecticut’s Early College Experience Program
NHRHS participates in the University of Connecticut’s concurrent enrollment program. For every UConn course taken at Nathan Hale-Ray, students will receive both UConn credit and high school credit. The majority of these courses are offered online.

Goodwin University Early College Advanced Manufacturing Pathway (ECAMP)
Goodwin University partners with NHRHS to offer dual enrollment as part of their advanced manufacturing pathway. Students who complete the pathway will earn their CNC Machinist Certificate.
