Engineering and Technology

The Engineering and Technology program at Nathan Hale-Ray High School is a vibrant and future-focused department that provides students with opportunities to innovate, design, and problem-solve using industry-relevant tools and technologies. This hands-on program equips students with technical knowledge and creative skills applicable across a wide range of STEM and career pathways.
Students begin their journey with exploratory courses such as Introduction to Engineering, Computer Aided Manufacturing, and Introduction to CAD and 3D Printing. These classes teach foundational principles in design thinking, engineering processes, and digital fabrication. Students work with modern tools such as 3D printers, CNC machines, and CAD software to bring their ideas to life, gaining experience in both digital and physical prototyping.
The department offers a progressive set of opportunities for students to dive deeper into specialized interests. In TV Studio Production, students explore media creation, scriptwriting, and video editing using professional-grade equipment. Robotics Technology challenges students to apply engineering and coding principles to design, build, and test robotic systems. Advanced courses such as Architectural Drafting and Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing II provide in-depth technical training for students interested in architecture, industrial design, or manufacturing careers.
Makerspace and STEAM Guitar Building offer unique, interdisciplinary learning experiences that combine creativity, engineering, and the arts. Students in these classes design and build functioning guitars, applying concepts in acoustics, electronics, woodworking, and aesthetics. These projects foster innovation, resilience, and teamwork.
Across all courses, students engage in real-world problem solving, collaborative design challenges, and iterative development processes that reflect authentic engineering and technology environments. The curriculum is designed to align with current industry standards, ensuring students are not only academically prepared but also career-ready.
The department emphasizes 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. Students often showcase their work through competitions, exhibitions, and community partnerships, gaining recognition and building professional skills.
Whether students aspire to careers in engineering, architecture, computer science, digital media, or advanced manufacturing, the Engineering and Technology program provides a strong foundation for success. By fostering innovation and empowering students to turn ideas into reality, this department plays a crucial role in preparing learners for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
